Paprika Spiced Salmon

Salmon is known to have many health benefits and for this recipe I have spiced it with paprika only, avoiding the use of red chili flakes or red chili powder, to maintain its health benefits. This paprika spiced salmon makes it perfect to pair with any meal.

Super easy to put together, it is the answer to those busy days when you have no time to put together a whole dinner. It is also a great lunch idea if you are looking for low carb or high protein options.

At the heart of this dish lies the star of the show – paprika! This vibrant spice, made from dried and ground bell peppers or chili peppers, adds a warm, smoky, and slightly sweet flavor to the dish.

Some Tips:

  1. You can use this recipe with any fish of your choice.
  2. You can use fresh or frozen salmon. If using frozen, thaw it in the fridge overnight or submerge it in COLD WATER to speed up the thawing process.
  3. You can chose salmon with the skin-on or skin-off. If using skin-on, make sure to place the fish with the skin side down.
  4. You can use whole salmon or fillets.
  5. When baking in the oven or using the air fryer, you don’t need to flip the salmon.
  6. Air fryer timings can vary depending on air fryer brands. Best practice is to check on it around 6 minutes and then determine how many more minutes to give.

This recipe is not just delicious; it is also versatile. You can pair it with a wide range of sides – from a simple salad to roasted vegetables, rice, or even mashed potatoes. The possibilities are endless!

Paprika Spiced Salmon

Course Main Course, Side Dish
Cuisine Seafood
Servings 4 people

Ingredients

  • 500 gm salmon
  • 4 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 4 tablespoons oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoon black pepper powder
  • 1.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1.5 teaspoon paprika powder

Instructions

  • Pat the salmon dry.
  • In a small bowl, mix together all the ingredients (except the salmon) to form a paste.
  • Coat the salmon with this mixture and leave for a minimum of 20 minutes.

Air-fry Instructions

  • Preheat the airfryer at 390F.
  • Once preheated, brush the stand with oil and place the salmon carefully in the airfryer basket using tongs.
  • Air fry for 8-10 minutes (timings can vary depending on air fryer brands) or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork.
  • Once done, squeeze some fresh lemon juice and serve hot.

Oven Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400F.
  • Line a baking dish with aluminum foil or parchment paper (for easy clean up) and brush with oil.
  • Place the salmon onto the baking dish and bake for 10-12 minutes or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork.
  • Once done, squeeze some fresh lemon juice and serve hot.

Pan Fry Instructions

  • Add 4-5 tablespoons of oil to a pan placed on medium high heat.
  • Once the oil is hot, add the salmon. Do not touch it for 3- 4 minutes.
  • Then flip it over carefully AND reduce the heat to medium.
  • Cook for a further 4-5 minutes until the salmon flakes easily with a fork and is no longer pink..
  • Transfer to a platter, squeeze some fresh lemon juice and serve hot.

Notes

  • Fresh or frozen salmon can be used. Just make sure to pat it dry completely before applying the spice mixture. If it is wet, the spice paste will not stay on.
  • Instead of salmon, any fish of your choice can be used.
  • Always keep fish refrigerated while it is marinating.
  • Avoid flipping too much if cooking in a pan. It can easily fall apart.
  • Salmon is done when it flakes easily with a fork and looks translucent from the inside.
  • If baking in the oven or in the air fryer, the salmon does not need to be flipped. It is flipped only if cooking in a pan.
  • Air fryer timings can vary depending on air fryer brands. Best practice is to check on it around 6 minutes and then determine how many more minutes to give.
