Best Air Fryer Chicken
Air fryer chicken offers the best of both worlds – the crispy, golden exterior of deep-frying without the guilt and mess. With the convenience and health benefits of air frying, you can indulge in this classic comfort food more often.
Fried chicken is an all-time favorite comfort food, but the traditional deep-frying method can be a hassle and not the healthiest option. Enter the air fryer, a kitchen appliance that has taken the culinary world by storm. Why I love to air fry?

– Faster cooking! You can have crispy fried chicken ready in a fraction of the time it takes in a conventional oven.
This is not a difficult recipe. Its marinade is very easy and done in one bowl. You can taste test the marinade at this point and adjust if needed.
Clean the chicken and make sure to pat it dry completely. This will allow the marinade to stay on. Make slits in the chicken breast, drumsticks and thighs. Rub the marinade on the chicken making sure to fill in the slits too. Leave it for at least 4 hours or best overnight.
Generally we preheat the air fryer. But in this case we do not preheat it. Place the chicken breast side down and start air frying. Then we flip it and further air fry the chicken.
Once done, take the chicken out and let it rest for at least 10 minutes. Check out how beautiful golden and crispy the chicken is !!
When you cut into it, you will immediately notice how soft and juicy it is. No hint of dry meat at all.
This air fryer chicken will surely become a family favorite and you will be making it on repeat.
To store any leftovers, you can either remove the meat from the bones or keep with the bones on in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Best Air Fryer Chicken
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken
- ¼ cup yogurt
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tablespoon chaat masala
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1-2 teaspoon mustard paste
Instructions
- Clean the chicken and remove any giblets. Pat the chicken dry completely.
- Make slits in the chicken
- Make the marinade by mixing all the ingredients mentioned above.
- Rub the marinade on the chicken, making sure to fill in the slits too.
- Cover the chicken and refrigerate it for at least 4 hours or for best result leave overnight.
- Do not preheat the air fryer.
- Place the chicken BREAST SIDE DOWN in the air fryer basket.
- Set on "Air fryer" setting at 350°F for 20 minutes.
- Then using tongs, flip the chicken and continue air frying at 350°F for 20-30 minutes more.
- If using a meat thermometer, the internal temperature should read 165°F.
- Remove the chicken from the air fryer basket and let it rest for 10 minutes before cutting.
- Serve with your favorite sides.
Notes
- Dry the chicken before applying marinade so that it stays on.
- We do not preheat the air fryer to prevent the chicken from browning and burning too quickly.
- Once the chicken is done, rest it before cutting into it. This allows its juices to remain in the meat.
