Servings 4 cups

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf/ baguette cut into 3/4 inch cubes
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian herbs (or any dried herbs of your choice)

Instructions

  • In a small bowl mix olive oil, garlic powder, salt, black pepper powder and Italian herbs.
  • Drizzle it over the bread cubes and mix it well so that they are well coated.
  • Now there are 3 ways:

Air fryer Method:

  • No need to preheat the air fryer.
  • Place the bread cubes in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  • Air fry at 300 F for 10 minutes. Stop and give it a shake around 5 minutes. If you want to brown it even more, add in 2-3 minutes more.

Oven Method:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 F.
  • Line a baking tray with parchment paper and place the bread cubes on it.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until they turn golden brown. Give it a shake around the halfway mark.
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool completely.

Stove top Method

  • Place a frying pan on medium-high heat and drizzle 3-4 tablespoons of olive oil on it.
  • Once heated, add the bread cubes and keep tossing until they become golden, crusty and crisped on all sides.
  • Once done, remove from the heat and allow them to cool completely.

Notes

  1. If you want to multiple this recipe, don’t crowd the baking sheet, or your bread cubes won’t crisp. Divide the ingredients across two pans or bake 1 tray at a time.
  2. Bake time will vary depending on the size of your croutons and the type of bread used so keep an eye out.
  3. To use frozen croutons, bake them on a baking sheet at 300°F until thawed and crisp.
